Our landmark home

Built for Bournemouth

The pavilion was built in 1999 as part of the award-winning pedestrianisation of Bournemouth Square. It combined a café, outdoor seating and a first-floor camera obscura — while preserving the clock from the old tower that once stood on the roundabout.

The whole civic scheme was opened by Bournemouth’s Mayor in February 2000.

Plan a visit

Right in the centre

The café stands where Commercial Road, Old Christchurch Road and Bournemouth’s gardens meet. The beach and pier are a straightforward walk through the Lower Gardens.

On foot

Lower Gardens

Walk south through the gardens for the seafront, pier, Oceanarium and Bournemouth International Centre.

By bus

The Square stops

Numerous town and regional routes stop around The Square and nearby Gervis Place.

Look for the clock

The white circular building, conical roof, blue clock cupola and fish weather vane are hard to miss.
